Jana clearly remembers the moment she decided to be a musician: ‘It was when I was about 4 years old and saw Marie Fredriksson (Roxette) on TV singing ‘How do you do!’ I knew I wanted to be a singer’, she recalls. Her family was always very musical and she started her piano and flute lessons at a very young age. She continued her studies at the Conservatory in Bratislava and Aix en Provence.
For a while she played in various orchestras, focusing on a career of a classical flautist. She was also a vocalist/flautist of a progressive rock band ‘Persona Grata’ which took her to Miami to perform at ‘Progressive Nation at Sea’ organised by Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). It was about then she took up songwriting and moved to London.
